Chayn
Empowering Survivors Through Digital Support
Mission
Chayn is a global nonprofit that leverages technology to provide trauma-informed support to survivors of gender-based violence. Founded in 2013, Chayn creates digital resources that are free, open-access, feminist, and multilingual. Their flagship program, Bloom, offers trauma support through video courses, grounding exercises, and direct messaging in multiple languages.
Problem Statement
Survivors of gender-based violence often struggle to navigate complex legal processes, especially when English isn't their first language or they are unfamiliar with legal systems.
Chayn seeks to build an AI-powered tool that generates formal complaint letters and legal documents to empower survivors to advocate for themselves effectively. This tool will simplify the process of challenging institutions like police or educational bodies, providing survivors with a clear path forward.
What success looks like
Survivors feel empowered to advocate for themselves, with a tool that translates their experiences into formalized documents.
The AI solution remains trauma-informed, providing survivors control over the final content, and ensures transparency about how their information is used.
High satisfaction rates from users, measured through qualitative feedback and usage metrics, such as the percentage of survivors who complete the tool's process.
