Before joining 42, I worked as an HR professional and took online computer science courses. I enjoyed coding so much that I decided to take a break from my career to focus on it full-time by joining 42—and I have no regrets.

42 is a great school that teaches not only how to code but also why coding is important. The project-based learning and peer evaluations help you understand why things work the way they do, instead of just copying answers. To succeed at 42, you need to communicate and work with other students, which is a valuable skill for any career where you collaborate with others on software or tools.

If you want to learn coding in a practical way, 42 is a great choice. In just 5 months at 42, I’ve learned more than in two years of online courses. So if you are interested, just keep swimming and you will do it!

My favourite part of studying at 42 is how there is a space for anyone; whether you enjoy competition or you prefer a more calm approach, whether you prefer a bustly workspace or a quiet environment, there's always going to be a little corner for everyone to enjoy and be comfortable in. With so many diverse students attending the campus, I've had no problem finding people who share my interests, and in no time I met so many people who opened my mind to things entirely new. And the most important thing is that everyone is striving to be better, and because of that, its created the perfect environment where peers push myself and each other towards coding excellence.

It's been the most enjoyable and also productive experience I've had studying, and coming from a completely different background, 42 London has enabled me to become adept in areas I never thought possible in such a short time, and the combination of peer support plus the self-paced structure of the course has accelerated my growth in coding in ways I never expected! 😀

I found out about 42 London from a friend at 42 Madrid, and joined while trading equity at UBS. After 5 months, the workload of a full time job and 42 projects became unsustainable, and I left UBS to focus fully on computer science. While this is the lesser decision financially, I am convinced this is the greater decision overall due to how much I have grown at 42 and due to how the students and staff here have impacted me.

Directly comparing 42 to university, I think motivated students can obtain the same/more practical experience at 42, and those that are motivated theoretically can obtain just as much as at university by reading around the projects while doing them. The campus atmosphere has been a major contributor to my positive experience and I hope many others can share it as 42 expands in the UK, as it has done in France, Spain and much of the world. In my opinion, 42 London has been an immense success so far.

Hi, I'm Oliver and I'm a 42 Student with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. When I first was shown the website of 42 London by my mum I was excited, it was something I had never seen before but related to me very well. I prepared myself for the Piscine not knowing what to expect, I was worried I would fail and not know anyone.

The first week in I was already making friends and meeting new faces, the community you build and join while in 42 makes it feel like home and not just someplace you go. It's helped me develop my social skills, teamwork skills, create new career pathways and overall confidence.

If you have found yourself being able to learn by doing things more practically and not just reading heaps of theory, 42 is the place for you. There is no such thing as failure.

        GEEK CULTURE

        WHY 42?

In Douglas Adams’ book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – H2G2 for short – an advanced alien species builds a super computer. It has only one job: to find the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything.

After 7 million years of calculation, the computer finds the answer: 42. In geek culture, 42 often represents the answer to a seemingly insuperable problem. This is why 42 is called 42.

This is our answer to what IT education should be today and in the future.
