The Children's Society
AI-Powered Well-being Support with Me Time
Problem Statement
The Me Time app is designed to support young people who have completed services with The Children’s Society, offering them a self-guided tool to manage low-intensity well-being issues like anxiety and sleep regulation. However, the current app has limitations in terms of content scalability and user engagement. Additionally, internal capacity constraints mean that the app isn’t reaching as many young people as it could.
The aim of this buildathon project is to develop an AI-powered assistant to improve content curation, personalize support based on user needs, and streamline access to relevant resources—without compromising the privacy of young users.
What success looks like
Better content curation
The AI assistant will guide users to resources more quickly and efficiently, making sure they find the support they need without needing prior knowledge of what to search for.
Personalized user experience
Although the current app uses a generic login, the AI will still offer personalized suggestions based on patterns in user interactions.
Scalable
solution
The AI will enable the expansion of the app’s content without a huge increase in manual effort, making it easier to add new resources as needed.
Engagement across age groups
The app will be adaptable for younger users (8-13 years) as part of the BBC Children in Need-funded national program, ensuring content is accessible and appropriate for a wide range of ages and literacy levels.
Skills & Techniques Required
This project will require expertise in:
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
To enable the AI to guide users toward the right resources based on their queries and needs.
User Experience Design (UX)
Creating an intuitive interface that is accessible for young people, particularly those with neurodiverse backgrounds or trauma.
Content Curation Automation
Building AI tools to automatically categorize and suggest content, streamlining internal processes.
Emotional Literacy
Ensuring the AI can support users with emotional well-being needs in a sensitive and empathetic manner.
